Discovering the premises of the homestead on a weekend
With this physical distancing from the outside world imposing an isolation from humans outside the family, it is time to discover the flora and the fauna around the house.
The deck presented the first interesting subject, when a friendly(?) wasp came by to say hello.
The flowers creeping up on the deck are just about ready to bloom.
Truth be told, the wasp was probably looking for that flower and wondering when it would open and provide him nourishment, than to have a chat with me.
Meanwhile, the little cactus on the deck table was glowing brightly in the sun, especially with that accidental drop of water on it, demonstrating the power of "opposites attract."
Saturday morning came with the first blooms on the vine that has draped itself around the deck.
The cool, but sunny and glorious weather drew me to the yard, where more such minuscule flowers were waiting to welcome me.
These flowers, only about 1/8 of an inch in size, can still encapsulate creation's beauty in all its glory in their miniature world!
And then of course, there is the ecosystem thriving, almost invisible to our eyes, unless we pay close attention.
This is a bug I discovered not when I was shooting the picture, but when I put it on my computer! Nourishment for the bug, followed by propagation of the species to the neighboring plants so that they keep giving us the pleasure of enjoying nature.
The strawberries that were planted in a small patch in the backyard and come back annually seem to be getting ready. I am certainly not a fan of strawberries, making me the odd man out in most social settings. Something about their texture and just the slight hint of sweetness in a tangy sort of background taste never appealed to me, no matter how many friends tried to convince me otherwise. But call it fragoli, as we have experienced on trips to Italy in the summers, call it strawberry, love its taste like the billions of fans around the world or be an exception like me, there is no denying how succulent they look in a strawberry patch in the backyard on a Saturday morning!
Nothing to relax the mind in these interesting times than this display of nature everywhere you look, even if it is simply in your own backyard, to which you rarely pay much attention!
